In 1973, Burnt Hickory Baptist Church began in West Cobb County. Rev. Buddy Crowder, along with seven families, began meeting in an old sign shop on what is now the site of Due West Hardware Store. First Baptist Church of Marietta provided support in the beginning, but the following year Olive Springs Baptist Church became our sponsoring church. They supported us with love, prayers, people and finances.

Within a short period of time, the first building - a sanctuary with classrooms in the basement - was built. The first service in that building was held on May 16, 1976. Burnt Hickory Baptist Mission constituted as a Southern Baptist Church on October 7, 1979, with 200 charter members. Larry Naylor was pastor at that time. As the church grew so did the demands for more Sunday School space. So with a step of faith, our first educational building was built. It was completed and dedicated on June 5, 1983, debt free.

In 1987, the Lord blessed Burnt Hickory Baptist Church by providing Mike Stephens as pastor. In response to God's continuous blessing and the growth of our county and church, two morning services were begun in April 1988. In August 1988, ground was broken for a new educational building to provide additional room for Sunday School and weekday preschool programs. This new facility was opened in October 1989.
In July 1994, ground was broken for a new building which included an 800-seat sanctuary, choir and office suite. This new facility was occupied on July 30, 1995.

In June 1999, the church voted to relocate to a new site. In April 2001, the church purchased 30 acres of land on Due West Road, approximately two miles from the original location. The current facility was occupied on September 12, 2004. This attractive new facility has afforded us the opportunity to expand the ministry opportunities of BHBC.

As we reach more people for Christ, we have sufficient space for them to join our fellowship. In the five years since we occupied our current facility, we have added approximately 1,827 new members to our church family.
Currently we have two services on Sunday mornings at 9:30 and two services at 11:00, one in the main worship center each hour and our alternative service, The Gathering, in the Radiate Auditorium each hour. Our average weekly attendance in worship has risen to over 2,000 with 1,500 attending LifeGroup Bible study classes each week.
